  1. These guys are not innocent even under their supporters’ account. They were provoked by words and responded with a six on one beat down. These are not good people and they don’t belong on the street. The murder charges have been dropped, so this whole thing is moot.

PS It’s still legal under the First Amendment to show nooses on a tree. It might mean you can get suspended from school–which the offenders were–but that’s it. Maybe you should read the Constitution sometime.

  2. Chris Roach, don’t act like your last name. The debate here isn’t over whether or not the white students or black students were wrong. The fact of the matter is the black students were charged with ATTEMPTED MURDER while the white students were charged with assault. The DA and the legal system in Jena, LA are racist and that is against the law. How about YOU read the Constitution, buddy?

It is illegal to hand a noose from under a tree, too. You are allowed the freedom of speech under the U.S. Constitution as long as that speech does not interfere with the safety of others. Again, you should probably read the Constitution before you post ignorant comments like this one.

  3. I agree with Chris. Sharpton looks for any excuse to open his big mouth. This protest would have happened even if this was the other way around. 6 white kids beat up a black kid and pleaseeeee dont say Sharpton wouldnt be there to make sure they got the worst punishment they could. Give me a break

  4. Who cares about Sharpton? Don’t bring him into this. You all are losing the point here. The lives of 6 minors are at stake, the DA is trying to throw these boys in jail for many years, that’s just not right. What they did is wrong, no matter black or white, but it is not attempted murder.

Thank you Chris for your 1st grade lesson, everyone educated in America knows the Constitution, I only hope you do. If you read the rest of the 1st Amendment you would know that they have the right to peacefully assemble and the right to petition. Adam Smith also coined the phrase “life, liberty, and the pursuit of property” which is every human beings right, and these white students were impeding on the black students basic rights by discriminating them. I’m sorry, but displaying nooses over a tree is a threat and should be considered harassment, not freedom of speech.

These are not adults and they deserve to be treated as minors and with justice, equality and fairness. You know you can never really expect a white person to understand how it is to be treated like a minority because in the majority of cases, you all are the majority. Please don’t speak on an issue which you cannot relate to or have no association with.

  5. Generalized offensive statements and actions are protected speech. There’s numerous sixties-era cases where things like “Guerilla Theater,” vague calls for revolution, and the like were upheld as protected speech. You can’t put a noose on someone’s front yard (or a cross for that matter) with the intention to threaten, but you can say “I hate niggers” and “I love nooses” all day long and decorate your house with signs to the same effect. Read the Skokie case. What First Amendment course did you take? The only exception in this are incitements to riot with an intention to cause an immediate breach of the peace. The nooses can hardly be described as such. And there is no “hate speech” exception to the First Amendment. Indeed, if there were, most Gangsta Rap would have to be banned to our collective benefit.

Second, all beatings are not equal. The fact that the kid was stomped, thirty witnesses saw it, and an ambulance had to be called is pretty relevant. The other cases, including a black kid that tried to barge into a party, were unrelated to the beatdown in this case. That said, you won’t see me marching to stop a white redneck from getting prosecuted for beating someone, even on attempted murder grounds. That’s the difference; I have some faith in and give some benefit of doubt to the elected officials who deal with black and white criminals all day long. More important, if your goal is just to have them not prosecuted for attempted murder, mission accomplished. They’re not being prosecuted for that, though it’s a common tactic for all defendants white and black for a prosecutor to pile on charges to scare people into pleaing. It might be wrong, but it has nothing to do with racism.

One last thing, have you heard of the Longbeach Halloween beatings, or Reginald Denny, or Channon Christian, or any of these other anonymous victims of black on white crime. When you are willing to call their killings and assaults racist then you’ll have some credibility. I have no use for crooks or racists, but I’m not willing to crap on my own people and forget which group is consistently more violent, both amongst themselves and against whites. Let’s have a reality check here. Racism is almost totally irrelevant to the problems facing Black America today, though the race-baiters Sharpton and Jackson would have us think otherwise, not least because their livlihood depends on it.

  6. I think you’re mistaken I didn’t say nooses had anything to do with the 1st Amendment, please read carefully. But, by today’s standard they are a threat and can be claimed as harassment. You could look at a woman the wrong way and it’s harassment, so this definitely falls under that.
I’m not speaking of every beat down case there is out there, I’m only bringing light to this one because it’s happening right now. Racism is racism, doesn’t matter if its white on black, black on white, white on brown, etc. I totally do not agree with you on who is more violent, come on man. Whites have been raping the world for centuries, so I’m sorry but the white race is far more violent. I hear more about white on black, white on brown crime than anything else, whites are the majority in most parts of the country, how does that even make any sense. I’m not black or white so it’s not even about that for me. For me it’s about injustice and inequality in this country, regardless of the color of your skin.

  7. Go read a study entitled The Color of Crime. It’s quite revealing. Just by way of example, blacks make up 12% of the population but 45% of the murderers and over 50% of the armed robbers. This is not good.

  8. Don’t need to read it, already know the history, but thanks, I don’t really blame them. Guess who brought Africans to this country, enslaved them, beat them, raped them, killed them, and then said hey now you’re free go enjoy life without any support?

  9. I think you really should read it, because the disparities are stunning. I suppose when black men rape white women, you say that you “don’t really blame them” as well, huh. My God, why don’t you just say wrong is wrong and what happened two hundred years ago has a statute of limitations. You can’t rape people in a good cause under even the most demented white-guilt morality I shouldn’t think.

  10. I’ve already stated above that wrong is wrong, I shouldn’t have to repeat myself. You still have to take the account of what your ancestors did, I’m sorry that’s the sad truth. You say 200 years ago, but do you know how long it takes to build a society? Far longer than that, it took America much longer. Even for first 100+ years African-American given no real rights, I mean the Army did not even desegregate until 1951. When I said I don’t blame them, maybe I could have clarified, but my reasoning is that they have not been given the chance to excel in this society. They have never had the proper resources and almost live in a different country than the rest of us. They are constantly held back and we do not have a proper education system in the areas where a majority of these folks are turning violent. Does your book do an analysis of the direct correlation between violence/criminals and socio-economic factors?

  11. Well are you happy with the result? Bell, a KID, has been in jail for 9 months already and his release time in unknown as the judge didn’t set bail or bond. I doubt anyone really deserves this much for a fight. Justice system fails again and I would be saying this whether the kid was black or white.

  12. Here you, a great example of our “fair” justice system.

According to the Washington Post, “The former president of the University of Mary Washington was convicted of drunken driving in Fairfax County yesterday, his second such conviction in a week. He avoided jail in a plea bargain and was fined $300.

Court records show his blood-alcohol content was .21, far above the .08 that is the legal standard of intoxication in Virginia. State law mandates a 10-day jail term for a blood-alcohol content above .20.

A second drunken driving conviction within five years brings a mandatory 20-day jail sentence under Virginia law, but Frawley’s Fairfax case was charged and prosecuted as a first conviction.”

WOW, now that is “justice” being served folks, everyone clap for the system. Damn, you can drink and drive twice and avoid jail but if you fight someone you sit in jail for 9+ months, makes sense, because Bell is a “bad black kid” and Frawley is a “nice white man”. Bravo system, you fucked up again!

  13.
