Vick In The Doghouse

It pains me to write about this recent news item. I’m a Virginia Tech alum and I’ve been a Atlanta Falcon’s fan ever since Michael Vick was drafted #1. As you all have probably heard, Vick has been indicted by the courts for involvement in dogfighting. Now, to me this is just a senseless act, why would you put two dogs up against each other to fight to the death, have you no morals? Forget about the fact that it’s illegal in this country, it’s just plain wrong.

Now, I know that he’s innocent until proven guilty but really he’s at fault for even being associated with this and now his image is ruined. You are the company that you keep. I never thought of Vick as the clean-cut poster boy of the NFL, that’s Peyton Manning’s role. Because I’m sure he smokes weed just like most players do from time to time and I’m not even going to judge them on that because to me it’s not an issue. But, he also has a child out of wedlock a la Tom Brady, so he’s fine there too. But, a federal court case? now that’s a career killer. The timing is really unfortunate because this was the season Vick was going to put it all together and finally prove whether he had it or didn’t. For his sake and the fans I hope he beats this charge and gets a chance to prove himself in 2007. Otherwise, this upcoming NFL season is going to have a dark cloud hanging over it.

At times like these I always remember the famous Charles Barkley quote, “I don’t believe professional athletes should be role models. I believe parents should be role models…. It’s not like it was when I was growing up. My mom and my grandmother told me how it was going to be. If I didn’t like it, they said, “Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.” Parents have to take better control.” Just remember, Vick is an amazing athlete it doesn’t automatically equate to an amazing person, at the end of the day we’re all human and capable of mistakes. So, admire an athlete if you want but don’t idolize them and especially don’t make them your role model.

  1. “capable of mistakes?” How on earth does this consitute as a mistake? It’s just evil. I don’t care one way or another if he’s famous, or a great athlete. He is still, and will always be scum in my book.
    Respectfully,
    marla

  2. Weed = steroid therapy

marijuana is a key aid for abusers of massive steroids (testosterone, cortiocids, amphetamines, hGH, insulin, etc..)

Manning, Brady are the ‘good guy dopers’. Vick is the bad guy doper.

    Pacman Jones will retrun soon.

Joey Porter’s pit bull killed his neighbor pony last year too.

They are all on massive drugs. Worse then the WWE and TDF combined.

The NFL is a Pharmacy joke.

  3. If this guy is making millions in the pro football arena they why would he waste his time on chump change in dog fighting? He is a very sick individual…. If he can do that to a helpless animal and a true companion like a dog imagine what he is capable of doing to a human being. I think this holds true of all individuals who abuse animals. Didn’t Jeffrey Dahmer start by killing animals? Maybe we should put Vick in the ring with a pit bull.

  4. I have no words that can describe how repulsive this is. How can any human been with even a little bit or respect for life can do such a deplorable think. Some people think that they are above the law and the rules don’t apply to them. He should be given the treatment that was given to the dogs. The saddest thing is that none of these dogs will be able to be spared because of the demeanor that has been taught to them.

  5. NFL players are:

    1) on powerful drugs
    2) above the law
    3) are created by billionaire owners with federal impunity
    4) ESPN-Disney funds this steroid mess
    5) BILLIONS of profits are made

    Nothing will ever change that.
